Meeting with Pastika, Investor from Saudi Arabia Explores fro Waste Management Cooperation

Facilitated by Indonesia senator I Gusti Ngurah Arya Wedakarna, group of investor from Saudi Arabia and Turkey met Bali Governor Made mangku Pastika, on Thursday (11/1). In meeting that held in governor office, Arya Wedakarna explained the interest of number countries from Middle East in investing for waste and energy management in Bali.

According to wedakrna, previously some businessman from Turkey and Saudi Arabia had met vice president Jusuf Kalla and numbers of ministers of Work Cabinet in Jakarta. “As I know Bali needs investor to manage waste and energy, so I invite them to visit Bali and exploring some cooperation change,” said him. Arya Wedakarna hopes there will be agreement achieves after that meeting, regarding they has experienced in waste management and energy development field for 35 years. The same thing also delivered by head of group Al Sharif Faiz from Alsharif Energy Company. He is interested on cooperation for managing waste becomes renewable energy in this island. According to Sharif Faiz, his company has cooperated with many countries.

Governor Pastika appreciated the offered cooperation from Saudi Arabia and Turkey businessman. He explained that garbage has become one problem faced by Bali province as tourism destination. One of the problem and has become the attention is Suwung landfills that used by 4 regecies in Bali, Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar and Tabanan (SARBAGITA). According to Pastika, many companies from Indonesia and abroad who have interested to manage that landfills. He added, 58 investors had explored for some cooperation with Bali provincial government. “Therefore, company from Saudi Arabia and Turkey become the 59th ones who come here,” said him. Meanwhile, it always constrained by national regulation that determines very lowest electricity purchase price. So if calculating economically, companies will be difficult in turnover. Other obstacle is tipping fee offering by investor is not getting some positive response by regencies government that used the landfills. “Morally, I want to finish this problem as soon as possible, but the fact is contradiction,” said him and hoping Wedakarna to fight for electricity purchase regulation in national level. Furthermore, the investors are also expected to coordinate with related agencies. Besied waste management cooperation, pastika hopes they also exploring for solar cell development.

For the information, total of Suwung landfills large is about 32,46 hectare. Welcoming IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting in next October 2018, central government has taken over the 22,46 hectare of management that will be created ecopark. And 10 hectare less will be used with sanitary landfill management and waste to energy concept.
