Bali Awarded for National Highest Democracy Index

Bali once again got a brilliant achievement. Recently, Ministry of Home Affairs conferred the 2016 the Highest Index of Democracy Award for Bali. The award was delivered by Minister of Home Affairs, Tjahjo Kumolo to Bali Governor, which on that occasion was represented by Assistant of Economy and Administration Development, Dewa Putu Sunartha in Balairung Kirana, in Kartika Chandra Hotel, Jakarta, on Tuesday (5/12).

Head of PR and Protocol Agency of Bali provincial Government, Dewa Gede Mahendra Putra on the press conference said that Bali Province is one of ten provinces that has succeed realizing democracy in government and society life fields. It based on democracy value index with the highest civil liberties in 2016.

"Bali Provincial Government got the award on Highest Civil Liberties category. Central government numbered Indonesia Democracy Index that becomes an instrument to asses democracy in province objectively and empirically,” said him.

He added, there are dozens provinces have been awarded that divided into four categories. Three best provinces on Highest Civil Liberties are Bali, North Sulawesi and North Kalimantan.

Indonesia Democracy Index is assessment result on democracy condition in province level throughout Indonesia. The assessment has been conducted since 2009. The aspects of index that have been assessed, were Civil Liberties and right for politic and democracy institution that is divided in some variables. And, the indicators of these three aspects are events, or the policy reflects to democracy condition.

The assessment has been done through news in mass media, review on documents, Focus Group Discussion and interviewing some informants. It was also coordinated Coordinating Ministry of Politic, Law and Security, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of National Development Planning, Statistic Central Board, the experts, researches of Indonesian Institutes of Sciences and academician.
