Bali Governor: Cooperation Amongs Countries Is Needed To Fight Terrorism

APEC Counter Terrorism Working Group (CTWG) supported the innitiative of Terrorism Countermessures Board (BNPT) to hold APEC Workshop on Strengthening Tourism Business Resilience Againts The Impact of Terrorist Attack in Nusa Dua, Bali in 9-10 May 2017. The event is based on the phenomenon that the tourism always being a soft target operation by terrorist network, in other side the event also aims reshare the Indonesia experience in recovering tourism Industry after Bali bombe attack in 2002 and 2005. 
On the opening ceremony that was attended by Coordinator Minister of Politic, Law and Human Right of Indonesia Wiranto, Head of BNPT Suhardi Alius and Head of APEC CTGW Mr. James Nachipo, on Tuesday (9/5), Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika conveyed that Bali got the valuable lesson from the terrorist attack in 2002 that at once also impacted Bali Toirism as well as economy sectors, even for Indonesia. According to him at the time before the bombe, Bali was safety and peacefull but suddenly becames a terrorist target. That experience made us aware that the terrorist can attack anywhere and anytime as well as can threat global tourism, added him. “Therefore, it is so important and very crucial to have the institutions (that have function) to prevent and fight terrorism, as well as need a strong cooperation amongs interantional institution accross countries,” said him. 
Minister Wiranto conveyed that many countries aware on terrorism issue in tourism destination. So, Indonesian government supports the cooperation efforts including workshop to strategize how to make safe and comfortable tourism destination and free from terrorist threat. “Our experience, if terrorist attacks tourism destination, it can kill the economy in that area,” said him. That APEC Workshop was also attended by APEC CTGW members that come from Australia, Chile, Canada, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Phillipine, Russia, Taiwan, US, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam.
