Vice President Jusuf Kalla to State The Indonesian Commitment Develops Maritime Sectore

As a maritime and archipelago country, Indonesia has a huge nautical potential, because70% Indonesian territories are the ocean as well as the biggest archipelago country in the world. The wide ocean as well as natural resources contained on it, isbecominga economy and ecology potential for Indonesia. However, the potential of nature damage caused by excessive exploration also will be a threat for our suistanable development.

Nowadays any problems like sea pollution caused by industrialization, carbon emmission caused by plastic waste chemical pollution, climat change as well as illegal fishing are becoming the serious threat for marine ecosystems. These threat need the real awarness and action both from Government and communities as well as various parties to overcome. So that, the shared commitment for establishing maritime sector is really needed. It was conveyed by Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla when becoming a speaker in 2017 World Ocean Summit (WOS) in Sofitell Hotel, Nusa Dua, Badung, on Thursday (23/2). " Maritime development which balances the economy interest and suistanable maritime is very important, Indonesian government had developed maritime sector and will be continued through instruction and related institution strenghteness in implementing national strategic project in maritime sector,” added him. In the forum that also attended by Coordinating Minister Maritime Affairs LUHUT Binsar Panjaitan and Minister of Maritime Affaires and Fishier Susi Pugjiastuti, Vice President Jusuf Kalla also said with the condition of Indonesia which consists of thousand of islands both large and small one, so we need to build transportation infrastructure that connecting amongs island by building Sea Toll. That effort is expected be able to raise the economy of seaboards as well as be able to simplify the flow goods inter-islands. “ Economy development should not rule out ecosystem preservation.” Concluded him. Related to maritime las enforcement, from illegal fishing, not reported, and without regulation of Fishing, through others transnational crime, vice President stated that Indonesian government has published a strict regulation for these crime acts. In the end of his speech. Jusuf Kalla underlined the important of global partnerships and inetrantional cooperation like innovative financial mecanism development, as well as research development and raising of community capacity about maritime, and invited people to synergy in implementing sustainable development concept, such as doing the development acceleration with always regarding of resources for the next generation.

Meanwhile Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika conveyed on his welcome speech the appreciation of the choosen of Bali as a host of 2017 WOS. Pastika expected that the summit be able to determine the agreement and important commitment inorder to maritimr preservatiobn effort. “Sea is the source of life and the welfare of human being, I expect by this forum sea potential will give a hug benefit for people welfare. 2017 WOS is held from 22-24 February and attended by 400 participants both from government, mulilateral organization, academic, as well as people community sector and the Summit will discussing issues related to ocean future through constructive and solutive dialogue.
