As main of tourism destination in Indonesia, the cleanliness is a must in this island of Gods. Related to that thing, Bali gives a serious attention to the effort of waste management. That statement was addressed by Vice Governor of Bali Ketut Sudikerta when responding Cindy Wockner, a journalist of Australia News Corporation’ question on an interview session in Vice Governor official resident, on Saturday (19/11).
On that occasion, Cindy questioned about condition and effect which is caused by Suwung landfills as well as countermeasures efforts that have been done by Bali Provincial Government. He said if that scrap heap does not get a serious attention, will caused more serious environment problem. Therefore, that landfills is being Bali Provincial government attention. Even, Governor Pastika had gathered regents and mayor from Sarbagita (Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar and Tabanan) for several time in order to discuss the Suwung landfills management.
According to vice governor, the increasing of waste overflow in Suwung is caused by ineffectiveness of cooperation with PT Navigat Organic Energy Indonesia (NOEI). That cooperation is considered not able to fulfill the responsibility as stated in MoU.
Nowadays, under coordination of Bali Provincial government, Regents and mayor form Sarbagita area are trying to solve the problem with PT NOEI. In line with that thing, Bali provincial government is still considering for further waste management. Vice governor added, many investors have been interested in managing that 30 hectare landfills, in other side, Governor Pastika also would like that landfill could be managed by government itself.
Responding the possibility in implementing tipping fee for each truck entering landfills, Sudikerta explained that he has the same thought. However, we should make a clear regulation to avoid any problem in the future. He also stated Bali Provincial Government will try to find the best solution in managing Suwung landfills. He expected the management will use technology like advanced countries do, so waste can be processed into energy and others useful products.
