Nyepi Day to Become “Trending Topic” in 2016 World Culture Forum

Nyepi or Day of Silent is one Hindu’s culture which commemorates in New Saka’ Year and also implemented by Catur Brata Penyepian (4 ways self-reflection), such as Amati Geni (Nno fire), Amati Lelanguan (no activity), Amati Karya (no job), and Amati Lelungan (no traveling). It makes Bali is one island in the world which rest itself for all day long. That uniqueness also attracts the world attention as well as making Nyepi Day as a trending topic on the opening of 2016 World Culture Forum (WCF) which was conducted in BNDCC, Nusa Dua-Badung, on Thursday (13/10).

According toEducation and Culture Ministry Muhadjir Effendy, Nyepi rests the world from the uproar of material life. By stopping all activities, Nyepi provides a space for Bali to slowing down. Beside as a form of homage of religion and culture, Nyepi has also succeed in saving the resources. With Nyepi’s multiplier effects, it is expected will be an inspiration of countries in the world. “Even though not full day, just a minute will give an         extraordinary effect for our earth,” said him.

This 2016 World Culture Forum which was attended by 1500 participants from 65 countries is expected create the deep commitment to more concern on various culture and making the centrals of development are more inclusive. So this 2016 WCF discussed six theme of cultures, including: village’s culture and development, water for life, culture and urban dynamics, digital culture and world, the difference of culture cross-community and party, as well as the relation of responsible culture and development. These theme were inspired by Bali’s local wisdom which is desa (place), kala (time) and patra (condition)and these are combined into Tri Pramana philosophy which means three measures or three proportions.

The balanced proportion among desa topos, kala chronos, and patra logos are our goal. Topos refers to surrounding environment context. Chronos refers to the uniqueness of society’s history, and logos is a discourse or the agreement of society. The harmony among topos, chronos and logos aspect have been succeeding the sustainable development. With the existence of Sustainable Development Goals which honors the culture, gives the time for working, discussing and thinking in order to harmonize the culture and development rhythm. The series of 2016 WCF events which has been held from 10 October, enlivened by symposium that was delivered by 19 speakers, 6 discussants, and 6 moderators for each. Besides that, there were also spouse program like visiting a Subak (traditional water irrigation system from agriculture) and House of Mask, culture and art carnival took a place in Puputan Badung Field, International Youth Forum event that that was participated by 153 youth from 35 countries, and International Folk Dance Festival that was enlivened by 351 participants from 13 countries.           

The event that was opened by the fifth President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarno Putri, also attended by Culture Ministries, State official in culture field, Bali’s Local Leader Coordination Forum the Stake Holders, local and international artists, NGO, Youth and academicians, and many more. (PM)
